Previously engaged in the Magistrates’ Courts Service for over 25 years. Held office of Clerk to the Teesside Justices and Justices’ Chief Executive (Designate) for Cleveland and was elected to the National Council of the Justices’ Clerks Society holding the position of Chairman of its Human Rights Committee. Served on the Lord Chancellor’s Human Rights Implementation Project Board.
Extensive knowledge of Criminal and Child Care Law. Regularly instructed by the Crown in sensitive, complex or high profile cases in the Magistrates’ and Youth Court and has prosecuted police and prison officers, teachers and in one case a Judge.
Instructed in complex expert evidence cases and specialises in fatal due care cases. Particular expertise in the areas of; vulnerable witnesses, child witnesses, serious public disorder and importation cases. Has extensive experience of dealing with complex sentencing matters and indeed has experience of giving training in this area.
Advises on appeal against magistrates’ courts decisions concerning practice and procedure and costs.
Appears in public and private family law proceedings (Barnsley MBC v B and others- 5 day finding of fact hearing)
