General Crime involving a mix of both Prosecution and Defence work.

Courts–Martial involving both District and General Courts-Martial, this regularly takes me further a field than the North Eastern Circuit to places such as Aldershot, Northern Ireland and Germany.

Prison Adjudications at various institutions representing prisoners for disciplinary matters.

Private Prosecutions – I regularly appear to prosecute individuals on behalf of Northern Rail.

R –v- Adams et al 2003 (Leeds Crown Court)
Junior Defence Counsel to Mr S. Reevell - Conspiracy to Rob and Conspiracy to Burgle - 41 elderly complainants – defendant entered homes posing as the Water Board.

R –v- Toon et al 2004 (Leeds Crown Court)
Junior Defence Counsel to Mr S. Reevell - Conspiracy to Supply Class A and Conspiracy to Supply Class B drugs – evidence based almost entirely on that of a Supergrass. Complex issues arose in relation to disclosure and Public Interest Immunity and extensive legal argument took place on Abuse of Process, which proved successful.

R –v- Smith 2006 (York Crown Court)
Junior Defence Counsel to Mr S. Reevell – 42 Count Indictment consisting of Rape, Buggery, Indecent Assault and Indecency with a Child against both male and female Complainants aged between 4 and 15 years. Historic sexual abuse concerning 20 Complainants mostly related to the Defendant over a period of 30 years.

R –v- McKenzie 2006 (Leeds Crown Court)
Junior Defence Counsel to Mr S. Reevell – Manslaughter by Gross Negligence – husband prosecuted in respect of the death of his wife with whom he’d had an argument on the way back home from a dinner party at which they had both consumed alcohol he left her in the car on a cold November night she was discovered the next morning dead on the driveway. Complex medical issues as to causation of death; differing medical opinions.

R –v- Chadwick 2006 (Leeds Crown Court)
Junior Defence Counsel to Mr S. Reevell – Conspiracy to Convert Criminal Property – theft of mail and subsequent use of numerous bank cards, credit cards and cheque books never received by customers to obtain cash and goods occurring over a period of 15 months.

R –v- Zarrouk et al 2006 (Teesside Crown Court)
Defence Counsel to Mother – Cruelty to a person under 16 years. Complex medical evidence involved in relation to Non-Accidental Injury. Parents accused of causing significant injury to their child consisting of a fractured femur and tibia and significant burns during a bathing incident.

R –v- Pickersgill 2007 (York Crown Court)  
Junior Defence Counsel to Mr S. Reevell - Rape and Indecent Assault on family members prosecuted under both the Sexual Offences Act 1956 and the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

R –v- Wells 2007 (Teesside Crown Court)
Defence Counsel - False Imprisonment – 15 year old boy who falsely imprisoned an adult female in her own home having crept in, and whilst holding a piece of rope threatened to kill her having already assaulted her. Psychiatric issues involved.

R –v- Moloney, Moloney, Owens and Owens 2007 (Teesside Crown Court)  
Junior Prosecuting Counsel to Mr N. Davey QC - Conspiracy to Conceal Criminal Property and Perverting the Course of Justice.

Courts-Martial:

R –v- Blaymire 2004 (Catterick CMC)
Junior Defence Counsel to Mr S. Reevell - Manslaughter by Gross Negligence – Defendant had shot another solider with an assault rifle whilst in theatre in Iraq. Multiple issues arose in relation to the Defendant’s weapons training prior to his deployment, which eventually necessitated the Royal Military Police interviewing General Sir Michael Jackson and General Sir Alistair Irvin.

R –v- Pugh et al 2005 (Aldergrove CMC)
Defence Counsel - Theft of ¼ million pounds worth of cigarettes and alcohol from
the NAAFI in Germany which was then transported to the UK in a caravan and sold. Four defendant’s including Mr Pugh’s wife.
